What is the process for switching to the Goodstore Child theme?

This is my own fault, but instead of starting off with the child theme as the active theme, I used the main Goodstore theme.I would like to switch to using the child theme so we can do some extra things with the functions.php file. When I've tried switching over to the child theme, the menus aren't working right and the sidebars and widgets are not there. Can you tell me what the correct steps would be to transition my site over to the Child theme - in the easiest, most efficient way possible?
