How to create a child theme

Hi, I have read 'How to create child theme' page (
http://support.jawtemplates.com/goodstore/web/?p=230) to create a child theme, but when I activate the child theme and visit my website, it says ' You don't have set Theme locations in menu settings,' showing nothing else in the body. I don't know what I did wrong, so I will elaborate on what I did below:- Created a new folder named 'goodstore-child' at public_html/wp-content/themes.
- Unpacked the downloaded goodstorechild.zip and uploaded the three files (functions.php, screenshot.png, and style.css) on public_html/wp-content/themes/goodstore-child.
- Activated the child theme on wordpress dashboard.
Then the error occurs when I visit my website.Could you please advise me what I have done wrong? - Created a new folder named 'goodstore-child' at public_html/wp-content/themes.
