Menu Question

Hello,Just purchased the Flying News theme and am trying to setup my categories and menu. Specifically, I am attempting to have the menu show the latest post with featured image as the demo theme did.
I have set up the menu to use categories and have several posts in each category. This particular category is "Talks" and I've chosen "Last post from category" which I thought would use the latest post & image but nothing shows up. I tried with both with and without "talks" in the "Choose Category ID" box.
